More than a Climbing a Mountain

I watched a movie today that was inspiring in all the right ways. It didn't involve someone raising a million dollars or winning the Olympics, although those are wonderful things to be celebrated, and certainly are inspirational. No, this film involves a boy determined to survive, a family holding to hope that he would and the community that was created to find him.
I received a preview of the film for the purpose of this review. All opinions are mine.
It is my Universe, after all.
The film is "Lost on a Mountain in a Maine" and it is the true story 12-year-old Donn Fendler who, after fighting with his twin is separated from his family during a climb when a fast-moving storm moves in. He must fight to stay alive while lost
for nine-days in the remote wilderness of northern Maine. While Donn’s disappearance captures national headlines and sparks a massive search effort attracting hundreds of volunteers, his family struggles with guilt and faith in his absence. All the while, Donn focuses on his Dad's words:
- Keep your head
- Find a stream, because a stream always leads to a river.Find a river, because a river always leads somewhere
- Press On
Press On
It's those final words that probably made the most difference, because indeed, he did press on. It is no spoiler to say that the boy lived. His journey, however, is remarkable. The movie is inspiring for all ages, but especially for young people, as Donn demonstrates the power of never giving up.
There is mild language but nothing that can't be heard on primetime TV. I recommend it for a wonderful Saturday afternoon for the family. You can buy tickets today. It will be in theaters starting November 1st!
