It's a Dog-Gone Birthday
Share
Happy Dogust to these three!
We have five in our fur family. Three are of the canine variety. All were adopted in one way or another.
First came Beanie:

We got her in 2010, and after scaring us the saving Christmas, she has traveled the country with us. She has now gone gray - wipe tear, but always a puppy to us. We think she is about 15 - making her an elegant lady of 105+ in dog years. We are hoping she has many more in her.
It was just Beanie for a long time. But when we settled in Galveston, we found this beauty at the Galveston Humane Society.

Born with mange due to her mother's condition, she looked a sight, but we still knew she was ours from moment one. That was fortunate, however. We adopted her that night, but we were told it would be three weeks until we could take her home because she had to get her last round of shots and to be spayed. We left with one thing. Her name - Roxie.
When we returned, however, she looked like this:

Miraculously, all her hair came in and Roxie looked like the star her name implied. She would now be a hot commodity for adoption, but she was already ours.
Finally, in 2021 in honor of my 50th birthday, my niece gave me this little mess.
Enter Lexie...

I thought she would stay little like this, but alas no. LOL
Here's a more recent pic.

She thinks she is a toddler and often wants to be held like one, but she brought our oldest Beanie back to life, and makes me smile daily.
So to steal bit from Chekhov, those are our version of "The Three Sisters".

Do you know about Dogust 1st? It's the unofficial birthday of all adopted animals whose owners don't know their actual birthday. It's also a way to shed a light on all the animals who sit in shelters needing adoption. You can learn more about adoption at AHS or the ASPCA.
If you are in the Buffalo area, here is the Erie SPCA.
