I Never Forgot - September 11th or the 12th

For all the good and bad of the day - never forget.
This week has a lot of emotion for me. 25 years ago, I lived in Queens and was pursuing acting full-time. Four days later, everything changed. As horrible as that day was, I remember so much good. As I walked through the city that day, unable to go home, strangers hugged and checked in with each other. I stayed at my friend's apartment until the trains ran again. Landlines were shared because the cell towers fell. Nobody gave a flying F who you voted for.
Truly, I remember September 12th the most. The flag hanging from the steel piling. Stories of survival. Watching my fellow Americans coming together and helping each other. My husband joined the military weeks later, and we left New York. Children and more followed. The girl of September 10th was lost forever. This is true for so many. I hope, however, the country of September 12th isn't lost forever. My husband says I am ridiculously optimistic at times. I like to believe I am just eternally hopeful.
